About the Artist
Through art I am often trying to convey what cannot be sorted out in words. The more I reflect on the flawed nature of humans and the civilizations that we construct, the more I find myself trying to visually process this in a way that will translate past potential biases within the viewer. My objective is to make work that blurs the lines around an idea, not in an attempt to reframe a belief but rather expand and validate the multifaceted nature of it. I do this both in conceptual contrasts within the narrative of the pieces I make, or by leaning into the idiosyncrasies of what I'm trying to depict. Having my work centered in human experience is important to me because it is not something that is often done without an agenda in the media, which influences so much of how people feel about themselves and the people around them. In this way my art explores how individual experience or vulnerability can communicate something universal about being a human being. When I am making art that is personal to my own experiences I am speaking in the universal language of what it means to be human. Through art, I try to take note of what feels precious about living, but what is overlooked, due to how uncomfortable impermanence and existential ideas can feel. The ways in which individuals cultivate a life for themselves and make a mess of things can really motivate my art. I also ponder questions of what it means to be human when faced with the entirety of ourselves, knowing our own dual nature, where our capacity for creativity is due to our destructivity and so on.
